My area of focus is sustainable finance and the greening of the global financial markets. More specifically, I will be looking at the harmonization of taxonomies and standards related to sustainable bonds (i.e. green, social, sustainability, and transition bonds) and the potential benefits of further harmonization to emerging and developing markets as the global community seeks to finance the transition to a low-carbon economy.
I enjoy learning about and discussing almost all aspects of sustainable finance and environmental sustainability as it relates to development more generally.

My research focus is on the importance of economic empowerment for the youth in Africa, who will become more than half of the population on the continent by 2050. I seek to learn more about the role of entrepreneurship in empowering the youth to not only build sustainable livelihoods, but also grow businesses that employ fellow youth, in order to counter the high rates of youth unemployment.

After completing my studies, I plan to use this research and my professional experience in a career dedicated to preparing the youth in Africa to enter the workforce and build businesses that positively impact their communities.

Research Interests:
Military drones/Unmanned Aerial Vehicles | Security |
Security-development Nexus | Social Discourse and Consent |
Feminist International Relations | Critical Terrorist Studies | Conflict Studies | Afghanistan,  Middle East and U.S. & Canada
Mentorship Services:
Academic experience | Conducting Research | Student Life Experience
Having studied development and feminism, I am interested in questions at the intersection of gender and development. More precisely, I focus on conflict, terrorism and security issues and their impact on the development of a country. Since I have done extensive research on Afghanistan for my MRP, I am particularly interested in the Middle East, as well as the US & Canada due to their military, political and economic involvement in the region.

I also read and write a lot about domestic and foreign relations, as well as consent (on a macro level) and discourse; I focused on governments obtaining consent from populations, at home or abroad, for certain policies and for intervention.

I also completed a policy analysis to understand the institutional response to climate change in Cambodian cities. Prior to pursuing my PhD I worked in the field of development and humanitarian response in East Africa.

I’m in the gender specialization so I’m always happy to chat about anything pertaining to gender. My thesis explores if and how child soldier disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration (DDR) programs account for the specific needs of girls who become pregnant while soldiers and their children. More broadly, I’m interested in how gender is included/mainstreamed, gender-based violence, and gender equity. Through this program, I was able to intern with Oxfam Canada and UNESCO Bangkok. Currently, I'm on Co-op with Global Affairs Canada on the Gender Equality Specialists Team.  I’m happy to chat about navigating the program, other aspects of student life, and your own research/international development interests!

I come from a relatively scientific and technical background with a BSc in Environmental Science & Geography from McMaster University. As a result, my research interests lie in bridging the gaps between translating climate science into doable sustainable solutions, especially where it concerns social equity and environmental policy. My current research includes examining the roles of civil society and the public/private sectors in water management and governance in South Asia to address and mitigate the critical water scarcity issue in the region. I am always happy to engage in discussions surrounding any global climate and water issues, but also am happy to chat about navigating the intricacies of graduate school or any of your personal international development passions! Currently working with Environment and Climate Change Canada.
