Lina Aburas Awadalla

Lina Aburas Awadalla (elle) est étudiante internationale, d'origine jordanienne et serbe, en deuxième année de doctorat en développement international et mondialisation. Elle parle couramment 5 langues et maîtrise l'anglais et le français. Ses recherches portent sur l’intersectionnalité du changement climatique et des conflits au Nigeria. Lina est arrivée dans le monde universitaire après avoir travaillé comme déléguée du Comité International de la Croix-Rouge (CICR) dans différents endroits du monde. Elle apporte son expérience diversifiée dans la direction d’équipes multidisciplinaires dans son environnement académique. Elle a l’intention d’apporter ses diverses compétences en leadership et de favoriser un environnement de travail inclusif et propice à l’Association des étudiants diplômés afin de représenter les intérêts des étudiants du GDVM/EDIM de la meilleure façon possible. Lina Aburas Awadalla (she/her) is an international student, of Jordanian and Serbian heritage, in her second year as a Ph.D. student in International Development and Global Studies. She fluently speaks 5 languages and is proficient in English and French. Her research focuses on the intersectionality of climate change and conflict in Nigeria. Lina came to academia after working as a delegate for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in different locations around the world. She brings her diverse experience in leading multidisciplinary teams into her academic environment. She intends to bring her diverse leadership skills and foster an inclusive and conducive working environment for the Graduate Student Association to represent the GDVM/EDIM students’ interests in the best way possible. |

Born and schooled in the US, I spent the better part of my working life in South Africa and am now resident in Ottawa and entering the third-year of my PhD in International Development and Global Studies. I am well-placed to understand the challenges not only of international students navigating life in Canada but also of mature students returning to academia. I appreciate the value of networking – virtually as well as in person – to enable a sense of camaraderie and community and welcome the opportunity to serve as the Vice-President Academic for GDVM.
With a Bachelor’s in International Affairs from the University of Colorado at Boulder and a Master’s in International Management from the Thunderbird School of Global Management, and a professional background in conservation and eco-tourism, I am now focusing my research on the conservation finance gap – why it is that SDG 14 and SDG 15 are two of the least funded, doing case study research in southern Africa into innovative and effective ways to narrow the gap. Secondary considerations of South-South cooperation, alternative governance models and ecological justice are also being explored. |

My name is Karen Spring. I am a second year PhD student at the School of International Development and Global Studies. Last year, I was the DVM CUPE-SCFP 2626 steward and attended our union’s meetings, learned more about our collective agreement with the university, and spread the word about the benefits that the union provides to its members. I would like to continue in this position in 2023/2024 and form part of the GDVM Executive Committee.
For 15 years, I have worked in social justice and human rights activism in Central America. My belief in the importance of organizing and student associations that inform student/employees of their rights and the benefits available to them is why I am interested in the DVM CUPE-SCFP 2626 position. As a PhD student, my research focuses on accountability and governance for communities affected by large-scale development projects funded by International Financial Institutions. I look forward to being involved in GDVM and acting as a liaison between CUPE-SCFP 2626 and our graduate association. |

Mes interêts se recherche sont les droits sociaux et le développement imternational.je suis de la faculté des sciences sociales à l'Ecole de Développement International et de Mondialisation.Je suis interessé pour ce poste parce que concerné au premier chef comme étudiant internacional je crois donc suffisammentarmé de défendre les interêts de touses les étudiantses particulièrement les étudiants.e internationaux. Ils sont en majeure partie mis en veilleuse. C'est le moment opportun de dire bien haut ce que mes pairs murmurent tout bas. La seconde source de motivation est que je serai parti à une équipe motivée et déterminée sur qui je peux compter pour ce combat de longue haleine.

Aimee Kwembi Tchoya

Aimee Kwembi Tchoya est étudiante à la maîtrise en développement international et mondialisation. Dû à mon expérience de chargée des relations extérieures de l’Association des étudiants de l’Institut Panafricain pour le Developpement Afrique Centrale, je suis celle qui vous faut pour ce poste. J'ai eu l'occasion de travailler avec les étudiants multiculturelles et le corps professorat. J’ai établi des relations fructueuses avec les étudiantes et les partenaires clés pendant mon mandat. Je comprend les dynamiques culturelles. Je suis capable de solutionner, de collaborer, d’intervenir, d’organiser les évenements, de diriger et de répondre aux différentes attentes des étudiants.
D’ailleurs, en tant qu’étudiante francophone en DVM je m’engage à travailler pour la promotion des relations de collaboration entre les représentants académiques et les étudiants francophones. J’établirais la liaison entre les étudiants francophones et les associations des étudiantes pour promouvoir la diversité culturelle et linguistique au sein de notre institution. |
Safo Musta

Safo Musta is a first year PhD student in International Development and Global Studies. Safo graduated from the MA program of the School of International Development and Global Studies of the University of Ottawa in 2022. Her MA thesis explored the impact of Canadian aid at the nexus of gender and transitional justice in Colombia through a feminist institutionalist lens. For her dissertation project Safo would like to continue working on transition justice and developments in the post-peace accord era in Colombia. In the past Safo worked in development programs in the Balkans and earned graduate degrees from Temple Law School in Philadelphia, PA, in the US and Riga Graduate School of Law in Riga, Latvia.
